چکیده
Most mediastinal tumors are incidentally diagnosed because they are asymptomatic. The aim of this paper is to report on the case of a 29-year-old male patient, who had an increase in cardiac area after blunt thoracic trauma. He was submitted to thoracotomy when a large mediastinal mass was found. The histopathological diagnosis was a mature mediastinal teratoma.

Giant mediastinal teratoma presenting with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.
Mediastinum is a common site where benign tumors, like teratomas, can develop. Usually, these lesions do not cause any symptoms and the diagnosis is reached accidentally. As they enlarge they may cause symptoms by compressing the nearby structures of the thorax, mostly the trachea and the bronchi. Extrinsic compression of the heart or the great vessels appears to be a very rare occurrence. Atri...
متن کاملPosterolateral thoracotomy Approach for an Ectopic Mediastinum Thymoma: A Case Report
Thymic epithelial neoplasms are commonly aetiology of the anterior mediastinum masses in adults. It represents 20–30% of all mediastinal tumours in adults. Ectopic thymomas usually affect the neck, mediastinal compartments, lung, and pleura, arising from aberrant thymic tissue. For giant thymoma, there is still no consensus on the surgical approach. We herein report a patient with a giant thym...
متن کاملMediastinal germ cell tumor with acute myeloid leukemia and growing teratoma syndrome.
A 39-year-old man was referred to hospital with a giant mediastinal mass, thrombocytopenia and high levels of serum tumor markers. Flow cytometry of bone marrow and peripheral blood samples led to the diagnosis of a mediastinal germ cell tumor associated with hematologic neoplasia. He was treated with combination chemotherapy for a germ cell tumor and acute myeloid leukemia. After chemotherapy,...
متن کاملTraumatic Rupture of A Posterior Mediastinal Teratoma following Motor-Vehicle Accident
We report a case of a posterior mediastinal mature cystic teratoma with rupture secondary to blunt chest trauma in a 20-year-old male involved in a motor-vehicle accident. Initial treatment was guided by Advanced Trauma Life Support and a tube thoracostomy was performed for presumed hemothorax. The heterogeneous collection within the thoracic cavity was discovered to be the result of a ruptured...
متن کاملA case of Mullerian cyst arising in posterior mediastinum.
A mediastinal Mullerian cyst was initially reported as a new category of congenital cyst by Hattori, et al. in 2005. We treated a 53-year-old female referred to us with a posterior mediastinal tumor found at the Th5 prevertebral level by chest-computed tomography during a medical check-up. She had a history of mediastinal teratoma, which was removed at the age of 35. Chest magnetic resonance im...
